If I have that love for my wife, imagine the love some Sufis have for Imam Ali (RA), the Prophets son-in-law, who the Prophet loved dearly, spoke so highly of, especially at Ghadir Khum in which the Prophet told the people there Of whomsoever I had been Master (Mawla), Ali here is to be his Master. Once you also factor in that the Prophet (s) is reported to have said (this hadith has some weakness, but the meaning is sound): I am the city and Ali is the gate, and that Ali is the master of all but one of the Sufi tariqas (paths), things become a little more clear as to why some people love him with such passion.
